Local Attractions - Schools

Vollintine Evergreen has a mix of public and privates schools. Some parents send their children to private elementary and middle school-and there are many organized car pools. In addition, students matriculate on a variety of public and private high schools outside the boundaries of Vollintine Evergreen. The following sections highlight the schools within the neighborhood boundaries.

Vollentine School (K-5th) 1682 Vollintine Avenue
Mission Statement: "Vollentine Optional Elementary students will be able to read with understanding, compute accurately, solve problems on different levels, use technology to obtain information, and write clearly in order to become lifelong learners. Vollentine Elementary is a local public elementary school that prepares their students to be good readers, problem solvers, and to be life long learners."

Little Flower (PreK-2nd) 1644 Jackson Ave
Mission: "It is the ideal and philosophy of Little Flower School that all children in the community, regardless of cultural background or economic status, deserve an education which will benefit their minds, assist their spiritual growth, and prepare them to take their places as responsible and productive members of society."

KIPP Diamond Academy (5th-8th grade) 2110 Howell St

Knowledge Is Power Program (KIPP) is a charter school, located next to Cypress Middle school and its educators strive to prepare their students for the best high schools, colleges, and the world beyond schooling. It is one of over fifty KIPP preparatory schools around the country.

Cypress Middle School 2109 Howell Street

Mission Statement: "The mission of Cypress Middle School is to provide quality learning experiences that will enable students to master grade level curriculum as measured by standardized testing, as well as to develop intellectual, social, and personal skills in a safe and orderly environment by the time they complete the 8th grade."  Cypress offers a number of sports for the students to participate in such as football and boys and girls basketball. Cypress also offers clubs such as the Student Government Association.

Snowden School (K-8) 1870 N. Parkway
Mission Statement: "Snowden is part of a diverse community. We are committed to the advancement of student achievement by addressing all learning styles and enriching student opportunities through accessible resources and community involvement that will better prepare students for productive living in the 21st century."  Snowden is located in historic midtown and maintains a picturesque image as its architecture reflects that of the 1900s.
